Tutor Training for Adult Literacy Volunteer Tutors @ The Milpitas Library. An Opportunity to Make a Real and Lasting Difference
Adult literacy is about opening doors and changing lives. The Reading Program, Santa Clara County Library’s Adult Literacy Program, is looking for tutors to work one-on-one with adult learners who wish to improve their reading, writing, and conversation skills.
We work with dedicated, patient, flexible and sensitive volunteers who create a positive learning environment where adults can thrive and learn without embarrassment.
With improved literacy skills and the confidence that comes with them, adult learners are able to pursue a better life and a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
To be part of our program, no prior experience is necessary. RP volunteers, who must be over 18 years-old, have to attend a 1-hour orientation and a 6-hour training before being matched with a learner. We ask that volunteers be available to tutor two hours a week for at least six months.
Just hear what other tutors have to say...
"Watching the growth of my learners and their newfound confidence is a priceless experience and inspires me to do my best." -Ursula, volunteer tutor
"Tutoring is an opportunity to build a special connection with someone while helping to meet his or her personal goals. The smallest step brings gratification for both the student and the tutor." -Candy, volunteer tutor
To register, call us at (408) 262-1349 or email us at email@example.com. For other dates check out our website http://www.sccl.org/Services/Reading-Program/Orientation.
We look forward to hearing from you!
